The starting haven no longer has a Faceless in it.We have largely tried to keep as much of Long War 2 version 1.5 intact, but some things have changed to incorporate how WOTC works and we have also made some balance changes that we felt were worthwhile.

So Commander if you're a Legend player and so on.ĭownload the mod from Nexus Mods and then follow the installation instructions on our wiki to get started. On top of the existing vanilla mission types, you will also have a chance to take on a few new mission types, such as Smash and Grab and Jailbreak (rescue resistance contacts)Īs Long War of the Chosen is a more challenging experience than vanilla, the general recommendation is to play at a difficulty level at least one less than you're comfortable with in vanilla.Encounter entirely new enemies that force you to adapt your tactics.Prepare for tougher missions with more numerous and challenging enemies, but with more tools at your disposal.Make use of SPARKs with a new ability tree and hunt the Alien Rulers if you have the corresponding DLCs.Train up officers that provide powerful buffs and abilities for your squad.Make use of 8 new soldier classes that have 3 ability choices per rank and an extra rank (8 instead of vanilla's 7).Discover a new research tree with a few new techs and new Proving Ground projects.Deal with the Chosen on both the strategy layer and in tactical battles (the Chosen need to be enabled in the campaign Advanced Options/Second Wave Options).Watch as ADVENT reacts to your actions by strengthening regions (making missions more difficult) and sending retaliatory strikes on your havens.Send out multiple squads at a time, adjusting the equipment and composition to make sure they can infiltrate in time.Use those haven rebels to detect missions for you, which you must then infiltrate before they expire.Build up the resistance by contacting regions and recruiting rebels in their havens. Here's a quick summary of the major differences from the vanilla game: It is a complete overhaul of the vanilla game that attempts to make campaigns more engaging, longer and more challenging. As someone who is lucky to get a few hours after work to play a game, Long War 2 just isn't viable for me anymore.Long War of the Chosen is a port of the original Long War 2 mod by Pavonis Interactive to XCOM 2's War of the Chosen expansion. Sometimes it can feel like it slows down to a slog, and pacing isn't really consistent. It serves to make every battle, every technological breakthrough, and every bit of progress much more impactful, but also requires much more time and patience to fight through.

The campaigns take significantly more time to complete or fail, and again this is a double-edged sword. Now this last point is subjective by nature, but it's important to note that Long War 2 is indeed long. This is a double-edged sword though, and while the radical changes are absolutely welcome, some of them aren't really executed as perfectly as they could have been. This can be great if you start to get burnt out with the game as it adds a lot of different mechanics and radically changes the way the Geoscape plays. Long War 2 is great, but very much alters the way the game is played. I think put it best: "War of the Chosen is the new massive expansion to XCOM 2, and is more of a total overhaul of the base game than a traditional expansion." So much new content including The Lost, soldier fatigue without mods, bonding, new buildings, personality traits, "hero" faction units, new enemies, bosses, balances Alien Rulers, and so much more. WOTC takes what made the vanilla game good and makes it 10/10 amazing. Really though they are just two entirely different experiences. I really like LW2 as well, so that's a glowing endorsement.
